How to Be Happy Spiritually – 4 Useful Ideas
If you’ve ever wondered how to be happy spiritually, I have some simple but useful ideas for you to get started. But simple as the ideas are, they come with some good and bad news.
The good news is: Being happy spiritually is extremely easy.
If you know yourself to be a spiritual being, infinite, one with all, and the creator of your life, you know there is nothing to worry about. Life is blissful. You understand that everything is perfect just the way it is and that you cannot lose in the “game of life”.
Knowing this spiritual truth is possible for everyone willing to seek it with some dedication.
Live Your Truth
The bad news: Knowing this truth and living it in everyday life are two very different things.
Even if you knew that you are an eternal spiritual being, the creator of your life, living this truth in your daily life may not be that easy.
But, although it may not be easy, it is certainly possible, and there are simple ways to practice. Being happy spiritually is not about being religious or having faith. It’s about finding peace within yourself, embracing your truth about life, and living life as an expression of love.
This way, you will bring all aspects of yourself to balance and be physically and emotionally healthy spiritually.
So what does all of that mean? To answer that, let’s take a look at 4 useful ideas on how to be happy spiritually.
1. Contemplate the true nature of life
One of the best ways to be happy spiritually is to understand that all of life is spiritual.
It does not require religious or spiritual beliefs to live spiritually, since it’s impossible to live any other way.
It is possible to think that you are not spiritual or living spiritually, and life may thus appear non-spiritual to you, but the truth remains nonetheless the same: You are a spiritual being having a physical life experience in a human body.
Being happy spiritually comes down to this understanding that there is more to life than just the physical. This new perspective will open new doors for you. Imagine that you could live your life without fear, knowing that everything will work out for you.
Dropping all fear and doubt will uncover your true, happy, wonderful self, which is healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. That is the power of spirituality.
But It doesn’t do much good to be told what spirituality is. Spirituality must be lived and experienced first-hand. And if you do, your life will change in miraculous ways.
I have written a spirituality guide which you can read to get started.

2. Increase your awareness
Your awareness of things around you, as well as your awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, will determine much of how your life will play out.
Awareness is linked to perception, your point of view. That is, the way you look at things. It determines how you think. How you think, in turn, determines what you will come to believe. Your beliefs then guide you through your daily life.
You think, say, and do things according to your beliefs.
Increasing your awareness will change your perception, which then will allow you to change your beliefs. Your new beliefs will subsequently grow into a whole new experience of life.
Here’s an example: If you see yourself as a victim, unable to change anything about your life, you will disempower yourself and be at the mercy of the circumstances around you.
On the other hand, if you see yourself as the creator of your own life, you will have the power to decide how you feel about those circumstances and choose a new approach if you don’t like what you are experiencing. This point of view will allow you to be happy and emotionally healthy spiritually.
Awareness leads to understanding
Here’s one more example:
When you grow old, it’s easy to see the things you should have done, instead of doing the things others told you to do.
As described by Bronnie Ware in “The Top Five Regrets Of The dying”, looking back at your life on your deathbed, it’s so obvious what you should have done to live a happy life to the fullest of your potential.
The older you get, the more you will be aware of the things you should have done in order to be happy. Allowing yourself to be happier is one of the five regrets, by the way.
Increasing your awareness will lead to this understanding much sooner. You don’t have to wait until you lie on your deathbed to have awareness of how to be happy in life.
Be open to new ideas
Increasing your awareness is one way how to be happy spiritually. Increasing your awareness will eventually lead to a more spiritual outlook on life (that is by design, more awareness can lead nowhere else since spirituality is the true nature of life).
This increased awareness, a widened view of life if you will, will lead to a spiritual understanding of the causalities in your daily life, which in turn will help you think only happy thoughts.
If your thoughts determine the direction of your life, why think of anything other than the best, most exciting, thoughts?
You can increase your awareness by observing how your thoughts and beliefs shape your life in a very concrete way. Think about your life a few years back. Back then, where did you believe life would lead you? Compare your previous thoughts and beliefs to your current life. Do you see the connection?
In addition, be open to new ideas. Follow your instincts. Meditate, read books, and attend seminars.
Here you can read more about how your perception affects your life.
And speaking of meditation…
3. Meditate
Meditation has a ton of benefits that will help you live a stressless, happy life. But meditation is, at its core, a spiritual practice to help you on your spiritual path.
How to be happy spiritually? Meditate.
Want to be physically and emotionally healthy spiritually? Meditate.
Do you wish to uncover the deepest truths about life? Meditate.
You might think that meditation requires much practice, but the truth is that it can be quick and effortless. Despite there being dozens of different types of practices out there, there is no best way to meditate.
In fact, meditation can be anything that connects you with your “true self”. This true self is your spirit, which knows everything there is to know about being happy spiritually. In fact, your spirit is made of the energies of love and pure joy.
The key to this type of meditation, trying to connect to your true self, is detaching from your ego (the conscious mind). And one of the best ways to do this is to stop and just be “in the moment”.
Stop and take a deep breath
Stop and notice where you are. Look at your surroundings. Take a deep breath, hold it for a couple of seconds, and then exhale slowly. Turn your attention inwards. What are you thinking? How do you feel? Your feelings are truth-tellers and a “direct communication”, so to speak, from your true self.
Concentrating on breathing deep a couple of times is a good form of “instant meditation”. It brings your attention to the moment. The more you can be still, the more you will be aware of your thoughts and feelings.
And the more awareness you have, the more you can choose what to think, say and do, rather than react to things around you. Again, awareness becomes the key (refer to the previous point).

The most important thing is to start with something and develop a meditation practice.
4. PractiCe Gratitude
Another very beneficial practice to have is gratitude. I bet when you think of spiritual practices, gratitude usually comes to mind (along with meditation and mindfulness).
You might think that gratitude is something that comes naturally when we feel good, but research shows that it’s the other way around; practising gratitude leads to feeling good.
Studies indicate that people who practise gratitude report higher levels of well-being than those who don’t, and that gratitude is actually essential for happiness. A gratitude practice will physically change your brain!
So please don’t think of gratitude as merely a feeling.
Gratitude shouldn’t be a response to receiving “your due,” but rather the recognition, that life, while essentially owning you nothing, provided you with everything you have. Your home, friends and family, your body, livelihood – your very life.
See everything as a gift
This, in essence, is spiritual ground. Be grateful for everything in your life, not just the “good things”. Everything in life is there so that you may create the best, happiest version of yourself.
The secret of how to be happy spiritually is being grateful for things in advance. Be grateful for things that you wish to happen as if they had already happened. This will open new doors for the universe to deliver you what you wish for.
Want to be happy? Be grateful for the opportunities that you have for happiness now and the opportunities that you hope will present themselves in the future.
Start seeing everything as a gift, and your sense of gratitude will begin to grow. This, in turn, will lead to more powerful, longer-lasting feelings of happiness and peace in your life.
